I'm an award-winning writer and nonprofit communications consultant based in the greater New York City area.  I work with clients to craft powerful messaging that informs and influences target audiences in an increasingly complex media world. Deliverables include comprehensive communications plans; social media strategies; help identifying and pursuing new marketing partnerships; and strategies for reaching target audiences. To help clients raise awareness, I show them how to develop mutually beneficial relationships with editors, producers, bloggers and other influencers who can draw attention to their cause, and work to ensure content is shared on multiple platforms. Press releases, short- and long-form articles, case statements, annual and capital fundraising communications, newsletters, and other content is provided for all outlets, including social media, podcasts, blogs, websites and print.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked with dozens of nonprofits and healthcare organizations to increase awareness and support for their causes and programs. My extensive communications experience includes my role as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the New York City chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) where I successfully led efforts to attract more corporate and individual donations, improved both digital and traditional media outreach, increased volunteer support and strengthened the LLS brand.

About

Claire began her career as a freelance journalist writing for The Chicago Tribune and several other high profile publications.  After winning a national award for medical journalism, she was invited to create a communications department and a marketing/PR strategy for the Chicago chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.  As interim director of communications, she devised a comprehensive plan that redirected marketing focus from individual events to compelling individual profiles, effectively putting a “face” on arthritis and raising the chapter’s profile statewide. She also consolidated the media outreach efforts of eight separate departments; developed the chapter’s first media database; successfully pitched stories to targeted media outlets; trained staff on effective public relations; created communications collaterals (website content, newsletters, brochures, etc.); and wrote speeches for leaders given at major fundraising events.

Along the way, Claire used her storytelling skills and media relations expertise to help numerous healthcare organizations. She has extensive experience creating powerful content and PR strategies for several of the largest and most prestigious hospitals and national nonprofits, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Geisinger Health Systems, Rush University Medical Center, Englewood Health and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Claire honed her marketing skills during a stint as Senior Writer for Lipman Hearne (LH), a Chicago-based marketing communications firm dedicated to higher education and healthcare. After moving to New York City, Claire has continued to contribute work product as an independent contractor to LH. Projects include marketing copy and fundraising projects, including case statements and annual campaign outreach.

In 2014  Claire was hired as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the New York City chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society where she helped raise the organization's profile and attract funds for medical research and to support patients and their families.

Claire is a graduate of Northwestern University and The London School of Economics. She is a member of the American Marketing Association and the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA).
